Reading Week : The Test of Champions
typically reading week is a good chance to catch up on some family time, video gaming, and general loafing around. this year we have been treating it differently, as a kind of test.
it is our first little taste of what life is going to be like outside of sheridan, and so many of us have been producing mailers, business cards, putting up websites, soliciting work and entering competitions.
here we have my first little golden bundle of joy, the applied arts student awards.

Barefoot-Girl, Street Spirits
its funny to think, but these really are my babies, it was tough letting them go!
i entered under the series category, seeing as how each piece incorporated buildings and monsters. why is it that these two things fascinate me?
YEAH!!! (yes, it has to be in bold)
is my most recent piece, and i think it incorporates much of what i’ve learned the past year, a kind of love letter to drawing and fun. i’ll be discussing this piece further in a future post, so stay tuned.
was part of a larger project in our Kitchen Sink class. we had to choose a magazine and redesign it from the ground up, the type, layout, cover, back, and illustrations. that was a beefy one and i really sunk my teeth into it. i’ll have to make a point to show you guys the rest of project and the illustrations the image you see here is a revised version from what i originally handed in for marking. I made new elements, shifted figures around and changed the colours to fall in line with my more ‘mature’ (although thats not really the word i’m looking for) sensibilities.
the last piece is the promotional poster i made for the barefoot girl, you can see the line-art is more pronounced this time, versus the original.
whatever happens i’m glad i put the effort into this, it was very satisfying seeing the letter go into the chute.
a little bit of nostalgia hit me as i mailed these away, those days as a kid reading EGM and GamePro magazine and entering the letter art competitions…that energy and excitement, its back!
