you could say it is a kind of stripping down of recurring themes and visuals, which kind of lead me down a very introspective path…
more notes on the work after the jump jump jump
additionally, the theme offered me a chance to simplify and strip down some of my working methods. i took away almost all the colour and left that to just the paper, my pencils and white paint. even though it might not be the most appropriate word to show what i’m going for, i’d like to think of this as a kind of ‘honesty’.
without going too into it, i realized with this some of the themes that continue to pop up in my recent work. stuff like isolation and communication, about relationships , growing up and with our monsters. specifically with simple city, i thought about the strange relationships we might have with others commuting on a subway, and also looking for love in the wrong places. you know it’s happened to you too!
i’m still pretty obsessed with Antoine de Saint-Exupery , some of the lines from the book really hit home. i’m not one for quoting so just follow the above link. visually i’m also feeling a kinship with the new mario game for the wii, it looks pretty rad. i’m probably going to have to do some fan art pretty soon:-)
incidentally, i noticed in Saint-Exupery’s art , on the prince’s little moon flowers grow. but i only realized this after drawing my rock as barren, only tough grass and weeds grow here . geeze what a downer!
last little thing: net props go out to Nick over at Amateur Illustrator for making ‘myfacespacebook’ image of the week last week. that was a pleasant surprise! this week’s pick is Tessar so yeah, go go hyperbubble!
ok thats about it, laters! remember to conserve energy and turn off the lights when your not in the room.
